Formula Student is a racing series in which university teams from all over the world take part and compete against each other in various disciplines. The teams work for a year on the construction of a racing car, which they have to finance and build themselves with the help of their university and many sponsors.
In the summer at the end of each season, various racing events are held at different venues, where each team and its racing car are scrutinised by an international jury. These include dynamic disciplines such as skid pad (driving a figure-eight course), acceleration (acceleration from a standing start on a 75 metre long track), autocross (best possible lap time on a 1 km track) and endurance (classic 22 km race course with driver changes), as well as static disciplines in which a self-developed business plan, a cost report and an engineering design must be presented in English.
In order to be admitted to the individual events, the car must pass four tests in advance in which it is checked for compliance with the rules. In addition, the team itself must also qualify together in several quizzes: Here, the team members' knowledge of the regulations is tested in examinations lasting several hours.
European locations for the racing events include Austria, Spain, Germany, Hungary, Italy and the Czech Republic.
